Everybody is somebody here

We have a global commitment to create and provide an inclusive culture where everyone feels welcomed, valued and proud to belong here. D&I for us means working to understand and celebrate a variety of cultures, and having a workforce that accurately reflects the communities we serve. This helps us make sure our customers and colleagues feel included in everything we do.

If our people feel like they belong, they are more likely to reach their best, so it’s important to us to constantly improve in this space. It’s a choice, it takes us committing and finding the specific things we need to be doing regularly to build our inclusive culture, and we’re really focusing on helping people commit to it and put tangible things into practice.

Making a difference, no matter our differences

Our organisation was founded on the principle of ‘treating people as we would like to be treated ourselves’, so for us, nurturing a diverse and inclusive culture is based on more than just business benefit.

At Specsavers we empower our people by respecting and appreciating what makes them different – whether that’s age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, or national origin.

Building a diverse workforce

As part of our commitment to make Specsavers a place where everyone loves to be, we have a Diversity and Inclusion Project Group that exists to enable the uniqueness of all team members to be cultivated and celebrated – where our people from all backgrounds want to belong at Specsavers and feel they can make a real difference.

We also have two primary team member-led networks including:

  • PRISM: Our colleague-led LGBTQIA+ network that brings together people within the business to help broaden our scope and feel of inclusivity and diversity and see things queerly. PRISM works to increase visibility, provide education and connect our LGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Parent-Hood: a parents network that brings current, new and expecting parents together within the business to offer the support, visibility and inclusion to be our own village. Through Parent-Hood we seek ideas and advice around topics that may be misunderstood or difficult to approach around being a parent and finding an optimal and sustainable work/family life balance.
