I’m originally from Griffith, NSW. I completed most of primary and all of my secondary schooling there. My family still resides in Griffith, where my father is a grape farmer. I have an older sister who lives in Wollongong and is in her first year out of university as an intern Doctor.
I graduated from UNSW in 2015, having completed Bachelor of Vision Science/Bachelor of Optometry and my interest in pursuing Optometry primarily stemmed from first hand witnessing the lack of eye care services available in rural/regional areas.
My experience at Coffs Harbour thus far has been a great one. Highlights include CPD events with the local Ophthalmologist, with exposure to a vast array of pathologies/conditions.
Being the only therapeutically endorsed Optometrist at the practice brought about a bit of concern. However the knowledge and experience gained through university and the vast range of different eye conditions I’ve been exposed to at work, I now find myself eager and confident.
The team here at Specsavers are extremely helpful and supportive. Everyone involved helps to create a positive work environment. Mentors take an extra step in furthering your development by arranging additional learning, with regular CPD events organised with the local Ophthalmologist.
On my days off I like to go to the gym and play soccer. The Gold Coast and Byron Bay are so close and accessible, so these both make great long weekend trips away. Coffs Harbour is a great area to live in, offering awesome weather, beaches and a great lifestyle in general. The team at Specsavers are friendly, supportive and a delight to work with.
All of the aforementioned factors make the transition to Coffs Harbour far easier and more enjoyable for a potential Graduate.
