Patients of the Bundaberg Hospital’s Emergency Department in Queensland will benefit from better eye testing thanks to the donation of a digital retinal photography (DRP) machine by Specsavers Bundaberg Sugarland.
The DRP machine will allow the hospital’s emergency doctors to take clearer photos of patient’s eyes, where they once relied on older technology that was more technically demanding and did not provide a storable image.
Specsavers Bundaberg Sugarland Optometry Partner Chris Rodgers said the team was happy the machine would be put to good use.
“We recently received a new machine in-store and I knew that the hospital didn’t have access to a DRP machine in the emergency ward, so I approached the Clinical Director of the Emergency Department Dr Terry George to ask if they would be interested in us donating it,” he explained. “We’re all in the health field, and wanting to look after our community in Bundaberg, so we should be banding together to make sure everyone has the best care.”
Dr George said the department was thrilled to receive the new machine, and grateful to the Bundaberg Sugarland team for thinking of them at the Emergency Department.
“Although Specsavers Bundaberg Sugarland and the Emergency Department at Bundaberg Hospital usually work independently, we both have a common goal of providing the best healthcare that we can to the community of Bundaberg and surrounding areas,” Dr George said. “This very generous donation is bound to improve the management and outcomes for patients with eye complaints presenting to the Bundaberg Emergency Department.”
