Hollywood actress Kim Cattrall has crowned the latest winners of the annual Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year (SWOTY) competition.

The widely followed competition, which involves a national hunt for the most stylish and confident spectacle wearers across Australia and New Zealand, attracted almost 6,000 entries in 2016.

Kim, known for her role as Samantha Jones on the hit series Sex and the City, toured both countries as Specsavers ambassador and lead judge, following in the footsteps of celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Margot Robbie, Christina Hendricks and Helena Christensen.

Joining her on the judging panel were Australian fashion designer and Australia’s Next Top Model judge Alex Perry, L’Oréal Professionnel stylist Brett Albury, and New Zealand celebrity hair and make-up artist Kath Gould.

Seven Australian finalists and six New Zealand finalists were flown to Sydney and Auckland, respectively, for a professional photo shoot and style consultation.

Ultimately, Michelle Jendranata from Perth (Australia) and Brian Hobson from Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand) emerged as the competition winners.

Commenting on her selections, Kim says, “As a specs wearer, I know how great it feels to be able to wear glasses with confidence. I can see that Michelle knows how to wear her specs with style and likes to make a statement, which is why we’ve chosen her as the winner.”

She adds, “Brian’s charming and quietly confident personality really comes through from behind his frames and I love his classy look. He is exactly what I was looking for in the search for our Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year – someone whose personality shines as soon as they put on their specs … it has been a wonderful experience to launch the competition and select the overall winner.”

Brian and Michelle have won a trip for two to New York to meet Kim and will also receive a SWOTY prize pack, including a year’s supply of designer glasses from Specsavers.

In addition, Sydney local Kristine Stanley was voted the People’s Choice winner, winning a voucher for two pairs of designer glasses from Specsavers.
