The team of optometrists advancing Specsavers’ clinical excellence continues to grow, with Jeena Tan being the latest addition.
Jeena has joined the optometry team at Spescavers Support Office as Optometry Development Consultant, working with Head of Optometry Dr Ben Ashby.
Jeena’s experience with Specsavers started in 2008, working as an optical dispenser while studying and completing a Bachelor of Optometry (therapeutic endorsement) at the University of Melbourne. Upon graduating in 2011, she joined the Specsavers Graduate Program and commenced optometry practice in regional Victoria before moving back to a metropolitan Specsavers store late 2014.
In addition to her role as an optometrist in-store, Jeena was also involved in facilitating graduate events, peer mentoring of recent graduate optometrists, and clinical supervision of final year optometry students from Deakin University and the University of Melbourne.
In her new position, Jeena will be working towards improving collaborative care health outcomes and enhancing the clinical eye care delivered to patients across Australia and New Zealand. As part of this, she will be ensuring effective utilisation of electronic referral systems in practices and progressing initiatives developed in conjunction with RANZCO.
Jeena will also be supporting the implementation of OCT in Specsavers stores, and recently helped launch the technology at Specsavers Mornington.
The introduction of OCT at Mornington follows a successful launch of OCT at Specsavers Joondalup in April 2017 and 12 months of piloting at Specsavers Ringwood – Eastland. OCT is performed on each patient that visits these stores, ensuring they receiving the best possible eye care and benefiting from the most advanced technology available in the market.
“I am excited to be part of new initiatives that will ultimately drive an advancement in eye care across Australia and New Zealand,” commented Jeena. “Given the opportunities I’ve already had with Specsavers in developing my capabilities as an optometrist, I’m looking forward to giving something back and to contributing to our mission of elevating eye care standards for all our patients.”
