Recruiting the next generation of Specsavers graduates

5 April 2023

The Specsavers Graduate Optometry Team has had a busy start to the year after kicking off their series of Specsavers Graduate Evenings in February.

The Information Evenings are the first opportunity our recruitment teams have had to network with final year optometry students across Australia and New Zealand, where they answer questions about working at Specsavers and showcase the Specsavers journey.

Across the last few months, our team travelled to Flinders University, UNSW, University of Melbourne, University of Western Australia, Queensland University of Technology and Deakin University. Events at University of Canberra and University of Auckland will be held within the next few months.

More than 270 students have attended the sessions so far, where they heard from our Optometry and Support Teams on what Specsavers is like as a company – our ambition to change lives through better sight and hearing, as well as the Specsavers journey and how we have come to be one of the leading eye health providers across Australia and New Zealand.

The students also heard from our Graduate Team on the details of the Specsavers Graduate Program – an unrivalled two-year development program that provides our graduate optometrists with skills and experiences to develop inside and outside of the test room. The team spoke about the benefits of the program which include a dedicated in-store mentor, professional events, courses and experiences specifically designed to help graduate optometrists achieve expertise.

The students then participated in a Q&A with a panel of speakers from Specsavers’ support teams and recent graduates and were able to ask all their burning questions about what life is like as a graduate optometrist at Specsavers.

Following the Information Evenings our recruitment teams have commenced individual meetings with final year students to discuss their interest in pursuing employment opportunities with Specsavers.
