Specsavers certified as a Great Place to Work

30 August 2021

We are delighted to have recently received the Great Place to Work certification for July 2021 – July 2022 for our Support Office and Stores in Australia and New Zealand.

The certification is awarded by Great Place to Work Australia Pty Ltd. It is part of the Great Place to Work Institute – a leading global provider of workplace assessment, benchmarking, and optimisation services to help organisations build and maintain high trust workplace cultures, enhance business performance, and provide opportunities for external recognition.

In Australia alone, 82% of team members from the support office completed the survey – well above the average for the retail industry. An impressive 447 responses were gathered across all departments of the support function and 3867 responses gathered from our store network.

The survey revealed what Specsavers support office colleagues felt were areas of strengths – these included feeling welcome when you join Specsavers (93%), management competent at running the business (92%), and feeling good about ways we contribute to the community (91%).

Other areas included enjoyment of colleagues – extent that they feel they can count on each other and can be themselves, and the work environment is friendly – people can have fun. These focus areas received a positive response of 86% and 85% respectively.

COVID was a catalyst to increase our care and support offering to our people through a range of wellbeing initiatives, with people proactively checking in with each other and showing compassion and empathy, and in many cases building much richer relationships.

Karen Clancy, Director of HR ANZ welcomes the certification, “We are pleased to be certified by GPTW as a Great Place to Work for both our Support Office and Stores in Australia and New Zealand.

“Specsavers received an outstanding response to the employee satisfaction survey, and we couldn’t be prouder of their resilience and how they have taken these challenging times in their stride.

“The care and genuine support they have shown for each other as well as a number of initiatives being put in place have really helped people be the best they can be.

“At Specsavers we aim to make you feel good by inviting you into a supportive, driven and inclusive culture,” adds Karen.

Specsavers initially participated in the annual survey in 2020, receiving our first certification. Now we celebrate this outstanding recognition two years in a row.
