A Specsavers television commercial has been nominated by the New South Wales public for the 2017 MACA Media Awards, which celebrates positive and balanced reporting of older people in the media.

The annual MACA Media Awards program, which is facilitated by the NSW Government’s Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA), seeks to challenge negative stereotypes of older people by highlighting examples of balanced and realistic media reporting on older people and ageing.

Through the acknowledgment of media reports that demonstrate there is more to ageing than becoming old, the awards program aims to improve public perception and encourage a greater quality of reporting and portrayal of older people in the future.

The Specsavers commercial, which can be viewed below, came runner-up in the Advertising category behind winner Apia, a national insurance company for those aged over 50.
