The inaugural Specsavers ‘Your Next Step 2018’ careers information evening was launched on 16 April 2018 at the Specsavers Support Office in Port Melbourne, Victoria, informing eligible team members of the various development programs available to take them into the next stage of their careers.

Optical assistants, dispensers, managers and optometrists from stores across Victoria attended to learn more about the programs that would enhance their dispensing skills, advance them into leadership and management roles, and prepare them for business ownership.

Networking and refreshments preceded a conference-style evening full of engaging presenters both from within Specsavers as well as from RMIT, the training provider for some of the courses. A comprehensive understanding of the Specsavers Career Ladder was offered, with sessions covering the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing, the Supervisor Program, the Diploma of Leadership and Management, and Pathway, Specsavers’ in-house leadership development program, which provides experienced optical professionals with the skills they need to become a Specsavers Joint Venture Partner.

Q&A sessions were held between each presentation, allowing attendees to gain clarification direct from course facilitators as well as from peers who had firsthand experience of each program. The event also included an exhibition where attendees could gain further information relevant to their individual circumstances.

“Feedback from the night has been overwhelmingly positive,” commented event organiser Kimberley Hannan. “At Specsavers, we’re committed to helping our store team members realise their full potential, and supporting them as they move forward in their careers. Your Next Step ensures our team members are informed of the development opportunities available to them, and gives them an opportunity to meet members of the Professional Recruitment, Dispensing Advancement and Retail Training and Development teams from Support Office who are ready to help advance them on this journey.”

The Your Next Step event is expected to roll out across other regions over the course of the year.
