Specsavers supporting The Fred Hollows Foundation on International Women’s Day

8 March 2022

This International Women’s Day, Specsavers is supporting The Fred Hollows Foundation’s work to build a workforce of women working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health. People like Veronica, an Aboriginal Liaison Officer working in Central Australia provide cultural, emotional and language support for patients to access eye care services in over 37 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Northern Territory.

Without Veronica’s work her team says “there would be no Eye Health Program, as the community would not engage.” She supports patients at all levels of care; from accompanying them to hospital, holding their hand in the nervous moments before a procedure and explaining post-operative eye care. The Fred Hollows Foundation’s work supports many workforce positions like Veronica’s around Australia. Together, with your support, Specsavers and The Fred Hollows Foundation are making a difference to close the gap in eye health, to provide equal access to care and build trust in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
