Auckland Eye CPD evening for Specsavers Optometrists

29 May 2024

Earlier this month our some of Specsavers NZ-based optometrists participated in an Auckland Eye workshop and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) evening for Specsavers Optometrists.

The workshop comprised two distinct segments. The initial segment encompassed topics pertaining to posterior health, specifically retinal conditions and their respective treatments. This segment also included discussions on ocular melanoma diagnoses and relevant case studies, which were expertly presented by Dr Riyaaz Bhikoo.

In addition, Specsavers optometrists were provided with informative case studies and management strategies for orthoptics and myopia control. Dr Yvonne Ng, along with orthoptists Aurelie Delhommais and Federica Ferruzi, optometrists Priyal Bhoola and Pooja Nagaraj shared their expertise in managing pediatric conditions and how to enhance the care provided in clinical practice for patients.

The latter segment of the evening was considerably more practical, involving the extraction of foreign objects from donated animal eyes—a procedure many in attendance had  not performed since their student days. This provided an opportunity to enhance proficiency in removing foreign bodies commonly encountered in practice.

The event was hosted by Auckland Eye, which brought together optometrists from various backgrounds, including recent graduates, ECO Optometrists, and store partners.

Thank you to Dr Sue Ormonde who coordinated the workshop, grinded the metal bodies on the eye balls and ensured the evening ran smoothly
