SCC features Vision Eye Institute’s leading ophthalmologists

3 August 2021

On Wednesday, July 28, Specsavers hosted it’s third SCC virtual event, with more than 600 participants livestreaming across Australia and New Zealand.

Presenters Dr Lewis Levitz and Dr Rushmia Karim, Ophthalmologists from the Vision Eye Institute, treated participants to engaging talks on a Vascular emergency update and the Red Flags in Neuro-Ophthalmology.

Dr Levitz discussed the major vascular causes of sudden vision loss, with a strong emphasis on what optometrists can and should do in their management. The cases presented by Dr Levitz offered clear guidance on when to refer patients for emergency care, and when to manage patients more conservatively.

Dr Karim presented a series of neuroophthalmological cases, delivering clinical pearls of wisdom for the optometrists attending, pointing out some of the common pitfalls in neuroophthalmological workups. Dr Karim discussed what tests can be performed by optometrists, and what factors might indicate that a patient should be referred for specialist assessment.

The session also included the announcement of the Doug Perkins Award finalists with 10 Australian and four New Zealand stores revealed. Winners to be announced at the live SCC Series in Brisbane on September 15. Click here to read the article on the finalists.

The next SCC session will be held online on Wednesday August 11, 7.00pm AEST.
