9 June 2021

On Tuesday, June 8, Specsavers hosted its second SCC virtual session, with 520 people livestreaming across Australia and New Zealand.

Presenters Dr Ben Whitham from the Fred Hollows Foundation and Dr Angus Turner from the Lions Eyes for Sight delivered insightful presentations on Diabetic retinopathy – the role of technology in managing DR and remote DR care.

Dr Whitham’s engaging talk titled Challenges of delivery eye care in a remote setting addressed the challenges of service delivery for remote communities, including access to indigenous communities during floods, drought and COVID.

Dr Turner provided an engaging talk on the Evolution of the Northwest Eye Hub, including a discussion on telehealth during COVID and adapting technology through artificial intelligence.

The event series will run throughout May until October, with all events being livestreamed across Australia and New Zealand, including in-person events planned for Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland.

The next Topcon SCC virtual series will be livestreamed on June 30 at 7.00pm AEST.
